|Home Air Conditioners - Investigate your options before buying.|
Types Of Home Air Conditioners
Like many products on the market, home air conditioners were first used in commercial buildings where high costs were not a deterrent.
Eventually prices began to drop and equipment reliability increased. Home air conditioners are now affordable for the average person and are found in most homes.
There are four common types of home air conditioners in use today.
Central air conditioners consist of an outdoor section and an indoor section. These two components are connected by copper pipe. Refrigerant circulates through these pipes during operation and is what transfers heat from the space being cooled to the outside.
Heating and air conditioning equipment requires regular maintenance. This means that your furnace filter or air conditioner filter must be cleaned or changed every two to four months. If you live in an area that is very dusty you may have to change filters every couple of months and very clean areas may require filter changes less often.
The other part of the central air conditioner is the duct system, which distributes the air throughout your home
Portable air conditioners are much smaller than central air conditioners. These systems have the same parts as the central units but these components are all located in a smaller body.
Portable air conditioners are great for use in areas where spot cooling is required such as bedrooms. These units can be very efficient and reliable.
Window air conditioners are basically designed the same as portable ac units. All of the components are housed inside a cabinet. The biggest difference between the two is that window air conditioners are not as portable.
Like central units, ductless air conditioners have indoor and outdoor sections. The main difference is they do not have duct systems. These systems are not mobile and once installed are permanent.
Ductless air conditioners are generally used to cool rooms and can have several indoor sections located in different rooms working with one outdoor section.
Another benefit of home air conditioners is they remove moisture from the air as it is cooled. This is very helpful in the summer when humidity can be very high. You can be comfortable at higher temperatures when humidity levels are controlled
It is very important for an air conditioner to be properly sized for each application. A common problem encountered with home air conditioners is over sizing. Oversized air conditioners will short cycle (turn on and off to often).
Problems associated with a short cycling home air conditioner.
It is important that air conditioning equipment be serviced by a reputable contractor. Many contractors offer their air conditioning services at reduced rates if you have a maintenance agreement with them.
